It’s no surprise that a forward-thinking city has tons of plant-based options to choose from, and they just happen to be some of the best we’ve ever tried. Whether it’s for health, the environment, the animals, or pure curiosity, these (all-vegan) hot spots are a must if you’re in the Golden Gate City!

Shizen takes responsible dining to the next level! Through a passionate commitment to protecting our oceans, they have created a contemporary, one of a kind vegan sushi bar and izakaya. Try the Prime Suspect roll with tempura asparagus, shredded gobo, marinated eggplant, sweet potato crisps, torched gochujang aioli or the Proud Peacock with cucumber, avocado, shiitake, eggplant, tofu, pickled mango, roasted peppers, seaweed pearls.

Timeless Coffee

While not technically in San Fran (locations are close in Berkeley and Oakland), this place is worth the trip for a warm pastry and coffee or something a little hardier like their vegan Spinach and Artichoke Pizza with Cashew Cream Sauce or Chicken Pot Pie. Come for the cozy cafe vibe and stay for the donuts, or cheesecake, or chocolate truffles, or breakfast burritos, or soft-serve ice cream…

The Butcher’s Son

This charming bakery and vegan deli will absolutely blow your mind. This is the spot to take those vegan skeptics. Once they order the Buffalo Bacon Ranch Fried Chicken Sandwich or the Herbed Lemon Chicken Grinder, they’ll know that eating plant-based definitely doesn’t mean you’re missing out!

Gracias Madre

The folks at Gracias Madre have a true love for Mexican cuisine. They also recognize how our food choices impact our health and the planet and are committed to raising awareness and making the world a better place by serving exceptional plant-based dishes. Order the traditional Pozole hominy stew that comes with a spicy red ancho broth and is topped with avocado, cabbage and cashew crema. Or you may want to get their Tamales with stone-ground heirloom masa, steamed in the husk, filled with butternut squash and spicy tomato salsa.

Declared the very first all-vegan burger joint, VeganBurg is showing the world that you can indulge in a tasty meal while still being conscious of your health and Mother Earth. It’s better to bring a friend so you can each get a burger and have half of each, as it’s hard to choose between the Smoky BBQ, Tangy Tarter, Creamy Shrooms, Hawaiian Teriyaki and all the others. Don’t forget a house-made lemonade to wash it down and some soft-serve or chocolate cake for dessert!
