Gen Z is Embracing the Cruelty-Free Future
2017 has already proven to be a remarkable year for all things plant-based.
- Brand after brand has introduced decadent vegan ice creams.
- Delicious vegan restaurants are popping up in cities all over the country.
- Major food companies, entrepreneurs, and celebrities are investing in plant-based and clean meat products.
And according to a recent report from Global Data, a market research firm, 6% of US consumers now claim to be vegan – an increase of 600% in just three years!
If all of this amazing news doesn’t give you hope for a cruelty-free future, then look to Generation Z.
Generation Z includes people born in the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s. This group makes up a quarter of the US population and will account for 40% of all consumers by 2020. And as a whole, they are embracing a food trend that replaces animal products with more compassionate options.
Plant-based alternatives are sprouting up everywhere – ranging from “bloody” burgers to sushi made from tomatoes. The innovative companies making these products are changing the way we eat and reducing the global dependence on animal agriculture.
Beyond Meat has launched its ‘Beyond Burger’ at more than 2,000 grocery stores across the country. While Impossible Foods has expanded distribution of its ‘Impossible Burger’ from select high-end restaurants to Fatburger.
Other companies, including Ocean Hugger Foods and New Wave Foods, have their eyes set on food-service companies and college campuses. David Benzaquen, CEO of Ocean Hugger Foods, described the company’s relationship with food-service companies as a “natural fit.” Colleges and universities buy huge volumes of food, and young people show an open-mindedness when it comes to plant-based foods.
So what do you think? Are you a part of Gen Z? What are some of your favorite plant-based products?
