Ingredients
(SERVINGS: 2)
- 1 package firm or extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
- ¼ cup water
- ½ vegetable bouillon cube, crumbled
- ½ tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. onion powder
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp. sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp. fine herb mixture
- ½ cup oil
Preparation
- Drain and prep the tofu: Remove the tofu from the package and let it drain. Wrap the tofu in a paper towel or a clean kitchen towel to absorb excess moisture. Cut the tofu into slices, then into squares or rectangles as desired.
- Prepare the breading mixture: On a large plate, combine breadcrumbs, sesame seeds, and fine herbs. Mix well.
- Make the wet mixture: In a bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. Add salt, crumbled bouillon cube, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix thoroughly and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Bread the nuggets: Dip each tofu square or rectangle into the wet cornstarch mixture. Let the excess drip off. Coat the tofu pieces in the breadcrumb and herb mixture, ensuring they are fully covered. Repeat this process for all tofu pieces.
- Freeze the nuggets: Place the breaded tofu nuggets on a tray and freeze for 15 minutes.
- Fry the nuggets: Heat oil in a pan until hot. Fry the nuggets until golden brown on both sides. Place the fried nuggets on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
Serve: Enjoy the nuggets with rice, salad, or your favorite sauce.
